Job Description
Product Manager, SEOGannett is seeing a highly motivated Product Manager to join a growing internal team dedicated to search engine optimization (SEO). This position can be fully remote with occasional travel.
Our current portfolio of media assets includes USA TODAY, local media organizations in 46 states in the U.S., and Newsquest, a wholly owned subsidiary operating in the United Kingdom with more than 120 local news media brands. Gannett also owns the digital marketing services companies Reach
Local, Inc., UpCurve, Inc., and WordStream, Inc., which are marketed under the LOCALiQ brand, and runs the largest media-owned events business in the U.S., USA TODAY NETWORK Ventures.
As a member of the Gannett team, you will directly support the Director of SEO, Product to maintain and grow organic traffic to usatoday.com and our top regional properties, interfacing with fellow product, editorial, and development teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Support Director and team in product-based SEO initiatives within USA TODAY Network, with a specific focus on USA TODAY and Tier 1 local markets Identify scalable opportunities in organic search to directly drive company-wide goals around traffic and digital revenue. Support cross-functional teams to validate SEO requirements of high-profile projects, via documentation, tickets and QA. Collaborate with SEO stakeholders throughout the organization, including editorial, content strategy analysts and digital producers.
Run regular SEO trainings to translate product/technical-level SEO recommendations to editorial and content teams. Support newsrooms in validating SEO approach, in particular on tentpole event coverage. Perform routine analysis in Google Search Console of priority reports and dashboards, including search analytics, crawl errors and XML sitemap / indexation reports. Build basic to intermediate reporting dashboards in Google Analytics or Google Data Studio, pulling in API integrations where relevant.
Stay up to date on latest Google announcements and algorithm updates and inform network stakeholders on its relevance to our markets. Evaluate SEO tools and software for use at Gannett and provide recommendations to Product Director.
Requirements:
Minimum 3-5 years of in-house or agency SEO. Experience in publisher/news vertical is highly preferred. Bachelors degree, preferably with a background in journalism, communications or digital marketing Seeking a highly motivated self-starter who can coordinate with cross-functional teams (product, editorial, engineering, design) to further SEO work in the organization. A strong communicator with excellent written and verbal skills. Robust experience in project documentation and ticket management via JIRA / Confluence highly preferred.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SEO methodologies and best practices
Experience with reporting/tracking tools, SEO and optimization platforms and data-driven SEO analysis a bonus
