The TBM Council is seeking a Program & Events Manager for an expanding team managing our Technology Business Management (TBM) community. With over 15,000

members and scaling fast, the TBM Council is a non-profit open ecosystem underwritten by IBM. The Council staff are full-time employees of IBM who manage all aspects of the foundation’s operations, strategy, membership, events, certification, and standards, working in partnership with the TBMC board and community members.


Reporting to the Council’s Marketing leader, this role manages the planning, execution, and promotion of TBM Council through virtual and worldwide in-person events. In

addition, it oversees the TBM Council’s sponsorship, presence, and engagement at strategic third-party events. To do so, you will partner closely with all functions of the

Council staff and teams, as well as practitioners and leaders across the TBM community. The ideal candidate brings strong experience and expertise across event

management, virtual even platforms, budgeting, branding, and project and program management.


Your Role and Responsibilities

Oversee planning, logistics, and management of all TBM Council events and third-party events where TBM Council is sponsoring, speaking or attending

Manage the logistics, promotion, and follow-up for in-person and virtual events, including Webinars, podcasts, tradeshows, executive roundtables, and practitioner meetups

Research, identify, and recommend ideal locations for TBM Council events, considering target persona, geography, budget and agenda/content

Write copy for promotion and follow-up material following TBM Council Messaging & Positioning guidelines

Approve or deny event registrations when applicable

Oversee brand and scope of regular event programs and make strategic decisions based on analysis of engagement, industry best practices, and feedback from community members

Create and strategically manage an events calendar, keeping in mind all TBM Council events as well as Apptio, IBM, and other third-party events while aligning with the TBM Council editorial calendar

Collaborate and project manage cross-functionally within the TBM Council team and other channels including Creative Design, Website, and Operations teams

Promote events internally through various channels within TBM Council, Apptio, and IBM

Manage event budgets end to end

Manage speakers' involvement, engagement, content, and experience

Develop event topics and themes with TBM Council leadership input

Oversee TBM Council presence at live 3rd party events

Develop a reusable booth design and kit for 3rd party events

Manage ordering, shipment, and inventory of swag and booth necessities

Oversee the creation and strategy of new programs and events

Support virtual and in-person events on the day(s) of the event as needed


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• 
  An understanding and proven experience planning and managing virtual and in person events
• 
  Knowledge of virtual meeting and event platforms
• 
  Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills
• 
  Ability to travel up to 25%, including potential international travel

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• 
  3-5 years' relevant experience, ideally in a fast-paced environment
• 
  Strong written, presentational, and oral communications
• 
  Customer service and community-first mindset
• 
  Ability to work independently, exercise judgment and meet time-sensitive goals
• 
  Background with a technology company or a technical community is ideal.
• 
  Ideally, an understanding of the TBM model and discipline and experience working with both leaders and practitioners of TBM. Knowledge of FinOps, SAFe and other related disciplines is an advantage.

  Experience working with an open source or other industry community and ability to build engagement and scale with a community
• 
  Strong analytical and data-driven mindset
• 
  Team player able to work with virtual and global cross-functional teams

The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
