Company:
PowerBridge, LLC, headquartered in Fairfield, CT, develops, finances, constructs, manages, and operates independently owned HVDC interconnectors. The Company manages two significant operating projects – Neptune and Hudson (1,320 MW in total) delivering power into the New York City area – and is developing a few others, including the 1,100 MW Cascade Renewable Transmission Project which is under development in the Pacific Northwest (see www.cascaderenewable.com and www.powerbridge.us for more information).
Role:
Help ensure that the Neptune and Hudson projects continue to operate at extremely high availability levels while adhering to all contractual and permitting requirements (which may include formulating and executing life extension projects). Serve as a technical liaison between PowerBridge and its key constituencies, including O&M contractors, interconnecting utilities, O&M subcontractors, leading OEMs and international industry groups. Support and be a part of the Company’s development activities, though the primary role will be in operations management of the existing assets.
Work Location: Primarily but not exclusively remote. Some but not extensive travel. Ideal candidate located in metro NY area.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Work closely within the PowerBridge team to provide technical and operational support, and oversight, for two operating HVDC Interconnectors, Neptune and Hudson, as well as for Cascade.
• Selected examples of what technical support and oversight will involve:
• Oversee operating equipment failure/root cause analyses by OEMs and/or third-party technical specialists;
• Review and comment (as necessary) on daily operations reports;
• Prepare monthly operations reports for investors and lenders;
• Interface with customers, RTO’s, regulatory authorities, and other constituencies on an as-needed basis;
• Respond to operational technical questions as they occur;
• For projects in development, review technical recommendations, conceptual designs, and cost estimates from selected OEM suppliers, oversee preparation of technical specifications, and support permit preparation and regulatory matters; and
• Manage third party technical studies, from scoping to issuance of final reports.
Desired Qualifications:
• Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a Power Engineering focus.
• Professional Engineer License, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years experience in electric power systems, transmission operation, transmission planning, transmission studies, RTO policies and procedures.
• 7+ years experience in bulk electric power transmission system project development, ideally including HVDC converters, SVC’s, and/or Synchronous condensers.
• Familiarity with electric power transmission systems utilizing submarine power cable systems.
• The right candidate must have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; a demonstrated ability to work independently and collegially within a team; and must be self-managed and motivated.
